Hi, This week let’s look at one of my all time favorite shows. Law and Order SVU. Millions of people, I’m sure, watch this show. They show us stories about sexcrimes and the detectives who try to solve them. The show, I believe, has stood the test of time because they show stories that do not conform to the belief that sex crimes can only happen to women. It is a very good show.
What they don’t take into account is that some of us know how long it takes to get a DNA match, or a fingerprint analysis, or even a toxicology screening. And believe me when I tell you, it’s more that the few minutes that they show. I realize that those few minutes actually translates to a few hours, but use your common sense. From personal experience I know that a tox screening takes six to eight weeks, not six to eight hours. And a DNA match would take even longer. I know this is just my opinion, but in my opinion it would be a little more believable if the characters maybe changed clothes more often so as to allow the viewers to believe that days had gone by.
Having said that, the men and women who play those characters, like Mariska Hargitay for one have joined others associated with joyfulheartfoundation.org. This is a wonderful organization whose sole vision is “A community with no sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse” and their mission is “To heal, educate and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse and to shed light into the darkness that surrounds these issues.”
Having been a victim of domestic violence myself, I can think of no better organization to attach myself to. They need all the help they can get. Please, visit their site. Give whatever you can. Maybe someday our children or grandchildren will be able to wake up to a world without the sexual assaults, domestic violence and child abuse that some of us know all to well.
Thank you all for reading and allowing me into your homes, computers, wherever. My hope is that when you’re watching a television show like Law and Order SVU you will spot the mistakes and maybe take a minute or two and jot them into the reply section of this website.
THANKS AGAIN…ANGELINE
