Religious beliefs…Part I

MUSLIMS

MUSLIM: “Muslim” is a religious term. A Muslim is someone who adheres to the religion of Islam.

The word “Islam” means submission  A Muslim is someone who submits to God. The Islamic conception of who God is, and how he is to be worshiped and served, is based on the teaching of Muhammad. Thus the Islamic creed is: “There is no God but God, and Muhammad is his prophet.”

There are two major denominations of Muslims. The two major denominations of Muslims are Sunni and Shi’a. Sunnis are the vast majority, at 85 percent of all Muslims. The first generation after the death of Muhammed, there was a dispute as to who would succeed him, from that dispute the denominations split.

The vast majority of Muslims are not terrorists. In fact, normal Islamic religious law forbids the intentional killing of non-combatants in battle. It also forbids suicide. It’s a small minority view that allows these things, and it’s a small minority who engage in terrorist activities.

Muslims need salvation through Jesus Christ. They are lost exactly like any other non-Christian—neither more nor less than anyone else. Furthermore, Muslims do come to faith in Jesus Christ. It usually takes time, and extended exposure to the Word of God and the lives of Christians, but more Muslims are coming to faith today than at any other point in history.

Presbyterian Church… NEXT WEEK…

RECIPES…

This week I am sharing a recipe that I just love. I got it from on of my favorite cookbooks, Biba’s Italian Kitchen. I will be sharing a recipe once or twice a month as the mood moves me and I hope y’all will do the same. That’s what this site is all about…SHARING.

So, Here it is.   RISOTTO CON SALSICCE…Risotto with sausage.

  • 6 cups chicken broth(homemade) or 3 cups canned chicken broth and 3cups water.
  •   4 TBSP unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup minced yellow onion
  • 1/2 pound either mild or hot Italian Sausage-your preference, casings removed and finely chopped.
  • 2 cups imported Italian Arborio rice
  • 1 cup full-bodied red wine, such as Barbera or Zinfandel
  • 2 TBSP tomato paste, diluted in 1 cup of chicken broth
  • 1/3 cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese
  • 2 TBSP chopped fresh flat-leaf Italian parsley

SALT AND FRESHLY GROUND BLACK PEPPER TO TASTE.

Heat the broth in a medium-size saucepan and keep warm over low heat.

Heat 3 TBSP of the butter in a large skillet over medium hear When the butter foams, add the onion and cook, stirring, until onion begins to color, 2 to 4 minutes. Add the sausage and stir with a large spoon to break up the meat, 4 minutes. When the sausage loses its raw color, add the rice. Cook and stir until rice is well coated with the butter, onion and sausage, about 1 minute. Add the wine.

When the wine is almost all reduced, add the diluted tomato paste, Cook, stirring, until the tomato paste and broth have been absorbed.

Add about 1/2 cup or just enough to barely cover the rice. Cook, stirring, until the broth has been absorbed almost completely. Continue cooking and stirring the rice in this manner, adding 1/2 cup of broth at a time, for about 15 minutes. At this point the rice should tender but still firm to the bite

Add the remaining butter the Parmigiano, and the Parsley. Mix quickly for 1 to 2 minutes until the butter and cheese have melted and the rice has a moist, creamy consistency. Taste and adjust the seasoning, and serve at once.

Please feel free to share your favorite recipes with us. I look forward to trying new recipes as do, I’m sure, my reader. So please, share them, here.

Hello again

Hi all,  just wanted you to know that I haven’t forgotten about you. I’ve been ill and that’s why I missed my Tuesday deadline. So I am sorry.

This week I would like to talk in a little bit more detail about a few diets. Let’s start with NUTRISYSTEM.

With NutriSystem the idea is that you pay them so much per month and they send you either packaged or frozen foods and you then also have to buy things like fresh fruits and veggies, milk and dairy, you know, things that are perishable. The problem that I, personally, have with NutriSystem is their food (at least the packaged foods) taste worse that the cardboard that they came in. Also, the frozen food plan costs $334.99 per month so if you’re like me, living on a fixed income, you probably cannot afford it.

Then there’s the Cruise Control Diet , A man named James wrote a book about the so-called health foods that really aren’t health foods and how to lose weight by eating your favorite food at the right times in the right amounts. Sounds good right? The book costs Approximately $50. I personally don’t think that you should have to pay to lose weight.

The one that I kind of like is Weight Watchers. For Approximately $15, a month, give or take, you get Food and Activity tracking, Personal Goals, Access to their Community, 24/7 online chat support, Syncing with fitness trackers, and exclusive content (whatever that means?)

Has anybody tried any of these diets? Did they work for you? Please let me know.

As always comments welcome.

More next week…

DIET…

Up until recently I had thought I had tried every diet known to man. The truth of the matter is that once I started researching diets for this site, I found out that I hadn’t even scratched the surface.

There are: The Mediterranean Diet, The Diet for your Blood Type, Jenny Craig, Atkins, NutriSystem to name a few.

The one thing that all these diets have in common, the one component that can make or break any of these diets, either make them work or fail or anything else in our lives for that matter is: The Human Component.  That’s right it’s you, and me. We make the difference between a diet working or not, between gaining in life or losing. Between getting what we want or settling for what somebody else wants to give us.

I am probably worse that anybody when it comes to throwing in the towel, but not anymore. I am going to pick a diet that I feel comfortable with and stick to it, a job I like, even if it means going back to school at 53 years old and finally, get what I want in this life.

Who’s with me? Who wants to take up the gauntlet with me? I will add a paragraph each week on my progress and you do the same, what say you?

Come with me people, what do you have to lose? Follow do the rabbit hole and see what wonderful things we can find.

More to come next Tuesday…

NEW TACK…

I have decided to take a new tack with this page. I would like this page to mean something to more than just me. So, what I’m proposing is a free and open health forum where anybody can put their two cents worth in about anything health related, from good or bad diets to cancer and anything in between.

I’ll start. I have been diagnosed with a small pineal cyst, and small vessel ischemic disease. Both brain problems. I have been told, by a neurologist, that neither produce any kind of symptoms and that I shouldn’t worry about it at all.

But since before I was diagnosed, I have had a world class headache and nausea so back that I’m afraid to put anything in my stomach anymore.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Any comment on this problem or requests for help on any other problem, just write in the comment section and I promise to research it for you.

Thank you,

Angeline.
